Virtual Instrumentation Using Labview

JOVITHA JEROME (D. Eng. from Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok) is Professor and Head, Department of Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineering, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. She is also Professor In-charge of PSG-NI Virtual Instrumentation Centre of the Institute. In this capacity, she received the Best Graphical System Design Lab Award (2008) from National Instruments (NI), Bangalore. She has about three decades of teaching experience. Earlier, she taught at Government College of Technology, Coimbatore; Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore; and Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Bangkok. Dr. Jovitha Jerome has published several papers in international and national journals. She received the Women Engineer Award (2008) from the Tamil Nadu State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) and the Outstanding Engineer Award (2009) from the Coimbatore Local Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India).

This book provides a practical and accessible understanding of the fundamental principles of virtual instrumentation. It explains how to acquire, analyze and present data using LabVIEW (Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench) as the application development environment.

The book introduces the students to the graphical system design model and its different phases of functionality such as design, prototyping and deployment. It explains the basic concepts of graphical programming and highlights the features and techniques used in LabVIEW to create Virtual Instruments (VIs). Using the technique of modular programming, the book teaches how to make a VI as a subVI. Arrays, clusters, structures and strings in LabVIEW are covered in detail.

The book also includes coverage of emerging graphical system design technologies for real-world applications. In addition, extensive discussions on data acquisition, image acquisition, motion control and LabVIEW tools are presented.

This book is designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students of instrumentation and control engineering, electronics and instrumentation engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and computer science and engineering. It will be also useful to engineering students of other disciplines where courses in virtual instrumentation are offered.

Key Features :

Builds the concept of virtual instrumentation by using clear-cut programming elements.

Includes a summary that outlines important learning points and skills taught in the chapter.

Offers a number of solved problems to help students gain hands-on experience of problem solving.

Provides several chapter-end questions and problems to assist students in reinforcing their knowledge.

Dr. Chakraborti has more than a decade of teaching experience in English Language and Literature.

"Primarily intended for undergraduate students of all disciplines of engineering and students of computer applications (MCA), this book is a comprehensive exposition of the values and ethical principles that one needs to adopt to become a responsible and accountable professional.

The book is organized in nine chapters that addresses the three broad areas of concern—values, ethics, and sustainable development. It first discusses the prevalent concept of values in human society, the various types of values, and the crisis of values that seems to be engulfing the contemporary society. The concept of ethics, the various ethical values, and the ethical requirements for a professional in the modern workplace are highlighted in detail. The ramifications of industrialization, the respective roles of science, technology and engineering, as well as the need for preservation of the environment and the use of eco-friendly technologies are explained. Finally, the ethical issues involved in the management of resources are discussed.

A number of case studies have been provided in the book to enable a clear understanding of the topics presented. Each chapter contains short answer as well as long answer questions to test the students’ grasp of the underlying concepts."

The Snake And The Rope

Science claims to be objective and to deal only with proven facts, but innumerable conflicting theories that science propounds remain unresolved. In this original and well-illustrated book, the author, an engineer and musician, argues with ample supporting evidence that since time immemorial the universal secret wisdom of the Adepts, known as Occult Science, has had answers to all unresolved problems. How is occult wisdom imparted and what qualifications are needed; how occult science explains Divinity, Space and Time, Energy and Matter, and the role of Sound and Light in manifesting the Cosmos — and many other fascinating topics — are explained by the author. He also makes predictions about the future course of science and suggests how science and occult science may be harmonized.

The Processes Of Life : An Introduction To Molecular Biology

Lawrence E. Hunter, a founder of the International Society for Computational Biology, is Director of the Computational Bioscience Program and of the Center for Computational Pharmacology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

"Becoming conversant with the intricacies of molecular biology and its extensive technical vocabulary can be a challenge, though, as introductory materials often seems more like a barrier than an invitation to the study of life. This text offers a concise and accessible introduction to molecular biology, requiring no previous background in science; it covers the basics in all aspects of molecular biology, from biochemistry and evolution to molecular medicine and biotechnology.

A reader who has mastered the information in The Processes of Life is ready to move on to more complex material in almost any area of contemporary biology.

“The Processes of Life is an excellent introduction to molecular biology… . By deconstructing an exceedingly complicated body of information into a set of core principles, Hunter provides the reader with a framework for grasping the strengths and challenges of modern biology... this book’s clarity and frankness make it an invaluable resource for any person, from any profession, seeking an introduction to molecular biology.”
